Fr. Daniel's Letter to the Parishioner's

Image
Dear Parishioners, We are now in the Advent season and there is no end in sight for this strange situation we are in.  However, I want to make sure that we all get the most out of this season given the requirements we are given to follow.  You will notice that we have taken many of the Advent activities online.  I have been a proponent of doing things virtually for a long time now because I was convinced that young families could join us after their children have settled down for bed and older people who do not like to drive at night could join us from the comforts of their living room.  It is really not a great substitute for going to Mass, but it can be very effective to communicate information.  We have a great line up for Advent and there is more to come.  Please visit our website often for up to the minute information on activities that will help you spiritually during Advent.  Do not let Covid steal your Advent!                 Confessions before Christmas are very importan

Fr. Daniel's Letter to the Parishioners

Image
Dear Parishioners, This weekend is the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year, 2020 and so the Church celebrates Christ the King of the Universe. As we were talking in the office about the cover for the bulletin, we settled on the crucifixion scene, because our faith believes that it is from the cross on Calvary where Jesus reigned supreme. We believe that the cross is his throne and his rule is one of self-offering and sacrifice. So as the world sees ruling others by also gaining wealth, prestige, access and power, Jesus rules through self-emptying, humility, and service. There could be no greater contrast between the ruling classes of our day and the example and message of Jesus. It would be nice if those who have political and governing power from both parties in our country took a page from “Jesus’ playbook” on how to rule. As our nation has fewer and fewer leaders who are religious or are religious in name only, it is easy to see how worldly values are taking hold in our natio

Fr. Daniel's Letter to the Parishioners

Image
Dear Parishioners,               In this weekend’s bulletin, we have listed all the names of those who have celebrated a funeral in our churches.   One of the spiritual works of mercy is to pray for the dead, to ask God to look kindly on their souls and to offer up sacrifices on their behalf.   We believe that we are still connected to them.   The prayer in the funeral book states, “We believe that all the ties of friendship and affection which knit us as one throughout our lives do not unravel with death.   Confident that God always remembers the good we have done and forgives our sins, let us pray, asking God to gather our loved one to himself.”   I started the experience of putting a book to enroll the names of our deceased and to pray for them every day throughout November and to have a special Mass where we invite families back together to offer the Mass for their loved one.   However, given the pandemic and the limited number of people allowed in the Church, like everything e

Reservation Open for Weekend Masses November 21/22

Attention! Starting next week (November 21/22), the maximum number of people allowed for Holy Mass is reduced to 50. Each Monday, we will open registration for Mass for the weekend. Please visit our website or parish app to register each week. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This is the law now, but do not be surprised if a total shutdown happens given the direction the State of Maine is going. Visit our website at princeofpeace.me or our parish app for up-to-the minute information. Registration Opens at 8:30 AM Monday, November 16th! You may register on our Prince of Peace Parish App, at our website: www.princeofpeace.me , or by calling the Parish Office at 207-777-1200 starting at 8:30 AM Monday morning! https://princeofpeace.me/mass-reservations
