Fr. Daniel's Letter to the Parishioners
Dear Parishioners,
The end of October brings the end of our parking lot Masses at Geiger and our Adoration in the parking lot at Holy Family. The other priests in the parish and I would like to thank so many people who made these events happen, and to tell you how wonderful it was to see so many people in the parking lot. I think back to the time when we started this alternative experience and how heart-warming it was to celebrate the Mass with you after months of looking out into empty churches. It was so great to actually see you even if it was through your car window. We have come a long way since then, and it seems we still have a long way to go. What I find amazing is that it did not rain once while we were in the parking lot. The naysayers were objecting when we were thinking of starting parking lot events saying that it might rain. We never had to address that problem. However, it is now getting very cold. If we lived in the south, we would continue on until everyone was back in church, but we are in Maine. Now that we have 100 people who are allowed in the church and 100 in another space watching Mass on a screen and receiving communion, we are one more step closer to what we once knew. Thanks to Judy for the sacristy work, David and Pallo Entertainment for sound, Peter Geiger and Geiger Brothers for the space and hospitality, Josh for the music, our Eucharistic Ministers and the Knights for all they did for you to receive Holy Communion.
The election is drawing near, and I cannot wait until it is all over. This electoral season has been like no other. The Church will not tell you how to vote, and it will not endorse any candidate, but she will urge you to do your civic duty and vote. As you make your choices, remember to take into account Church teaching with its non-negotiables as stated by the US Bishops’ Conference, and carefully decide which candidates will support the serious moral issues of our day. I know that many people want me to be more specific, but I will have to trust in our parishioners to make informed decisions.
Peace, Fr. Daniel
